In the previous chapter, you learned to construct sentences using ‘had’ in affirmative answers about possessing something in the past tense.

In this lesson, we shall learn how to form negative answers about the possession of something using ‘did have.

Construction of a negative answer using ‘did have’

The structure of an affirmative answer is as follows:

  • No, + subject (any singular or plural noun) + didn’t have + other words + full stop (.)

Formation of short negative answers using ‘have’

While learning affirmative sentences about possession, we have seen that we should pay attention to the first verb in a question.

So, we use the first verb in a sentence to form the short answer.

In this lesson, we are answering the questions starting with did.

So, the formation of a short negative answer is as follows:

  • No, + subject (any singular or plural noun) + didn’t.
