What Are the 5 Forms of Verbs? List of 91 Verbs

In the English language, forms of verbs are used to say something according to the situation.

So, it is essential to know about the forms of verbs.

There are five forms of verbs. They are-

  1. Base form, or, we can say, present tense
  2. Past tense
  3. Past participle
  4. Present participle
  5. Infinitive

Uses of forms of verbs

We can use these five forms of verbs in different sentences.

The base form is used in sentences of the present tense.

The past form is used in sentences of past tense. These are formed by adding -ed to the base form of regular verbs.

The past participle is used in sentences in the present, past, and future perfect tense. These are also formed by adding -ed to the base form of regular verbs.

The infinitive form of a verb plays the role of different parts of speech in a sentence. Infinitives are formed by adding to’ to the base form of a verb. Though infinitives are the forms of verbs, they do not act as verbs. Therefore, we should include at least one finite verb with the infinitive to complete the sense of the sentence.

Examples of forms of verbs

Here is a list of forms of 91 verbs. These are all regular verbs. These verbs’ past and past participles are formed by adding -ed to the base form.
