Uses of Past Perfect Tense

1) Past Perfect Tense is used to express an action which is started before the time of speaking in the past and just finished before it; as,

  •       Sameer had lived there for two years.

2) Past Perfect Tense is used as equivalent to Simple Past Tense to describe the earlier action; as,

  •       His mother has advised him to prepare for examination.
